Laura teaching a qigong class.

Laura, from England, is one of the most recent additions to our Nam Yang family. She first contacted us in October last year, less than a month before the start of the 200 Hour Qigong Instructor training course that started on the 28th of October, 2023. But despite being a late entrant she did magnificently. On completion of the course, she said:

“...it was a truly life changing experience! The course itself was really in-depth and covered so many topics and the teachers were so professional and passionate about their subjects. The teaching quality was excellent - the knowledge and experience of the teachers were evident from day 1 and I have learned soooo much over the 4 weeks.”

And wasn’t just the training that had such a deep effect on her. It appears that she fell in love with the retreat itself:

“The place itself is stunning - you feel as though you're in the middle of nowhere, being surrounded by rolling hills and beautiful views, but actually it's only a 10-minute scooter ride away from Pai town, where there are loads of restaurants, shops and cafes, so the location is ideal. The accommodation at the retreat is simple, but to a good standard, and is well maintained. The food is great and it's lovely how everyone eats together, so there's a real community feel :) I already miss my Nam Yang family, but hopefully, I'll return in the not-so-far future.”

Well, we certainly hope she does, because we miss her as well.

Like so many of our alumni, despite missing the rest of the Nam Yang family whom she met and bonded with at our retreat in northern Thailand, she became a Chi Kung instructor in her own right, in surroundings nearly as exotic as the Nam Yang Southeast Asian retreat. she explains that she has since taught a twelve-person class:

“...At a 7 day retreat in Lanzarote. One of the classes was actually inside the crater of a volcano! The feedback and reviews from the classes were really positive and a few people have continued a daily Chi Kung practice since learning it on the retreat.”

For those of you who do not know, Lanzarote is one of the Canary Islands, a Macaronesian archipelago which is geologically and biologically part of Africa, but politically part of Europe. In a place where two ancient cultural traditions meet, what a great place to study the legacy of a third one; an ancient Asian discipline. Laura has done exceptionally well and we are very proud of her.

And she tells us that the course she taught was so successful that:

“The feedback and reviews from the classes were really positive and a few people have continued a daily Chi Kung practice since learning it on the retreat”.
