Shaolin Kung Fu Instructor.

8 month Apprentice Instructor Program.  $10,618 US.

Our full Shaolin Warrior syllabus.  This is a fairly demanding course covering very deep martial arts knowledge seldom taught any more.  After an initial training period of 8 months all those who have trained diligently and honoured their responsibilities will be invited to stay for additional training at the very much reduced cost of $470 / month.

Introduction.
We believe that our apprentice instructor scheme is the best value course that we offer.

Joining our instructor team is about becoming an inspirational martial artist.

We are passionate about our Kung Fu.  We live, eat and breathe Kung Fu.  Our association dates back to 1954 – we are dedicated to preserving its traditions and the quality of its arts.

Nam Yang Pugilistic Association is developing into an international Kung Fu community.  Our Retreat in Thailand is now its focal point, its centre of excellence.  It is here that we are training our star students who will preserve our arts for future generations, spread them internationally and inspire others to take up kung fu.  To reach this standard it is necessary to practise full time and live the kung fu lifestyle – 24/7!  Our apprentice instructor scheme is carefully planned to make this a reality.

Our team here train to the maximum so as to bring their mind, body and energy to a peak.  We also emphasise strong character development.  Combining our physical practices with meditation and a study of Chinese philosophy enables us to develop our consciousness and personal effectiveness so as to become leaders and motivators.

We are working very hard to create opportunities for our people to earn enough money so as to satisfy here indefinitely should they choose to and develop themselves to the maximum.  Alternatively, we will support them in setting up Nam Yang schools around the world.  In return for supplying our trainee instructors with dedicated teaching and reduced fees at the Retreat, we ask that they contribute about 10 hours work a week.  The nature of this will depend on each individual’s skills.

More about our Apprentice Instructor Scheme: What Is In It For You?
Since we aim to have the best instructors possible, we take the training of our instructors very seriously. All instructors receive extra training.

Practical Martial Arts Training.
After completing two months of basic training, trainee instructors move on to the advanced training program covering more advanced elements of Kung Fu and Chi Kung and are also invited to the extra instructor only training sessions each week which are usually run by Master Iain.

Instructor students can expect to learn a variety of different weapons as well as freehand routines, progress through a demanding series of ‘breaking’ skills destroying first roof tiles then concrete blocks, master highly practical fighting skills and develop themselves physically, mentally and spiritually.

Teacher Training.
A truly great teacher needs a wide variety of skills. How to communicate difficult techniques and complex knowledge, how to motivate, how to lead, how to manage groups of people, how properly listen to, understand and help their students, how to organise and how to conduct themself properly. We spend two hours a week working on these skills, usually taught directly by master Iain. This is one of the things that sets our course apart – we give you the skills that you really need to succeed as a full time martial arts teacher.

Teaching Practise.
This is not a theoretical course. As soon as we feel that you are ready – usually after about one month’s instructor training – you will begin teaching for real. This will usually be either as an assistant an experienced teacher or with an individual student, maybe groups of up to three.

You will have the chance to teach for real. As you progress and become a stronger teacher you will sometime be given the opportunity to lead a class. By the end of your training, you should be able to lead classes on your own and teach a broad range of kung fu skills.

This is an opportunity to devote your self whole heartedly to the pursuit of kung fu. There are not so many opportunities like this available. Check us out, compare all of the options available then if you want to be considered contact us, explaining that you are interested in training to be an instructor. You will receive a personal response – we place a very high value on our students instructors.

What our students say about us :

National Geo

The retreat is located – not by chance – in an harmonious place that fills you with its peaceful glow and even a sea dependent, who grew up by the coast and can’t spend one week without longing for the sounds and smell of the ocean (only people raised by the seaside know what I mean), feels completely at peace there! This truly is a life sanctuary that will replenish you with a magical vibration attuned to all living things! There aren’t many places with this vibe. I felt this in the Pacific Islands, especially Rapa Nui and Bora Bora, and both the Pacific and Nam Yang Kung Fu Retreat were the only two times in my life when I felt like crying when leaving a place…

While they suggest staying for a week or more my boyfriend and I were only able to stay for 2 days. They welcomed us in even for this short stay and made us feel just as important as students who were there for months. The training was well rounded, and the instructors were knowledgeable, patient, and all spoke fluent English. Training starts at dawn and is almost all day long which made our two days feel like a week on our body. We felt like we were at a true Kung Fu training camp with bamboo structures, great nutritional food, amazing mountain scenery, and incredible instructors. Everything was better than we expected…

A most satisfied student here....after learning 'Chi Gong' in UK by authentic Chinese masters I practiced this arts teachings for many years, benefiting in all it has to offer to prepare for Kungfu. What I quickly realised in Nam Yang is that I was doing many incorrect postures causing me pain in the long term. Learning 'Chi Kung' from Master Ian and his team was without question what I needed to truly learn this ancient art. All the team individually helped me fine tune key areas of my life physical, mental and spiritul…

I booked initially for 1 week but extended twice, until I had to return to my country. I never thought i would have such an interesting time. The combination between qi kung, kung fu, strong warm ups, meditations, strechings, weapons, sanda... makes the experience so complete for body, mind and spirit, as they say. It’s a healing place, in any sense, physical or mental. The instructors are one of the most remarkable things of the retreat: since they love the kung fu as a way of life, that feeling is transmitted on the trainings. They are serious with their job, and friendly on the treatment, patient and strict at the same time. The way of teaching is based on explaining the reason why of every movement, so everything makes sense. You find easily the motivation for learning and enjoying, and wanting more…

Master Iain and his instructors cater for all types of students at differing levels and grades of either internal or external kung fu. I am mid forties and fairly fit yet the retreat in Pai made me feel healthier and rejuvenated in such a small space of time without the usual 'thrashing' or 'beasting' you may have faced in other martial arts / boxing .. why? It was down too the good balance of hard / soft training that was conducted in a mature and intelligent manner - all of which is built on respect for each and every person at the retreat...
